WAITING
By Dawn Harris

We are here.  We have stepped out into the water and the Lord has brought us to the Mississippi River.  Not quite the Jordan, but you have to love the irony.

This journey is just beginning and already, we are weary.  Isn’t that just like people?!  The Lord is taking care of all of our needs and we complain about it anyway.  How sad we are…

It is funny, the Lord has been using the story of Joshua crossing the Jordan River to teach me many things during this time.  I am not sure I like this story anymore.  (I really do, but growing and stretching is painful!)

When we stepped out we felt like the priests that stepped into the Jordan River and the water parted.  (Joshua 3-4)  Now as I sit here waiting…less than patiently, I question God about why things aren’t moving for us.  We are just waiting.  Waiting!!  Why?  For What?  See…I am a whiny person.  I hate that about me.  None-the-less…I whine.

As I read back over the story of Joshua, looking for any kind of answer, I noticed that the priests were the first IN the water, but the last to cross the river.  Ugh!  They stood there, holding the Ark of the Covenant and watched as thousands of people and all of their STUFF crossed over and set up camp.  They just stood there!  Then they stood there and watched the men build a memorial to the Lord.

Joshua 4:10 says, “The priests who were carrying the Ark stood in the middle of the river until all of the Lord’s instructions, which Moses had given to Joshua, were carried out.”

ALL of the Lord’s instructions!  They just stood there holding the Ark.  It was their burden to bear.  No one could do it for them.  They stood there and waited.  No directions, no break, no food…nothing.  Just waiting.

That is where I am.  Waiting…
